Ingredients
1 large head of cabbage, chopped
1 tablespoon avocado oil or cooking oil of choice
6 strips of thick-cut bacon, cut into bite-size pieces
1 package andouille sausage, sliced diagonally into 1/2 inch pieces (smoked sausage as an alternative)
1 pound uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 orange bell pepper, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons all-purpose seasoning
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Pinch of red pepper flakes
1 large head cabbage Provides fiber and a crisp base
1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined Adds lean protein and seafood flavor
1 package andouille sausage sliced into 1/2 inch pieces Brings smoky, spicy depth
Instructions
1-Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sliced andouille sausage. Cook until it’s browned and slightly crisp, about 5 minutes, then set it aside.
2-In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sautΓ© until fragrant, which takes about 1 minute to release its full aroma.
3-Add the shrimp and sprinkle with a portion of the Cajun seasoning. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, ensuring they don’t overcook.
4-Toss in the shredded cabbage, sliced bell peppers, and remaining Cajun seasoning. Stir fry for 5-7 minutes until the cabbage is tender but still has a nice crunch.
5-Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and mix everything together. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors blend.
6-Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve hot. This dish can be adapted for different diets, like using vegan substitutes for a plant-based version.
