Ingredients
– 1 teaspoon minced garlic for savory base
– 1 teaspoon minced ginger for sharp note
– 1/4 cup soy sauce for umami flavor
– 3 tablespoons honey for sweetness
– 1 teaspoon rice vinegar for tang
– 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes for kick
– 2 teaspoons cornstarch for thickening
– 3/4 cup water for consistency
– 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for sautΓ©ing
– 3 garlic cloves finely chopped for flavor
– 1 whole head broccoli cut into florets for crunch
– 1 cup mixed vegetables such as mushrooms and bell peppers for texture
– 500 grams deveined and cleaned shrimp for protein
– Salt to taste for seasoning
Instructions
1-First Step: Prep everything before you turn on the stove Gather all ingredients for the teriyaki shrimp, chop the garlic, cut the broccoli into florets, and measure the sauce ingredients into a bowl. This is the part that saves you from scrambling later when the pan is hot and the shrimp is staring at you like it has places to be. Because this is an easy 30 minute shrimp stir fry, prep work is the real secret weapon.
2-Second Step: Mix the teriyaki sauce In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 3 tablespoons honey, 1 teaspoon rice vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes, 2 teaspoons cornstarch, and 3/4 cup water. Stir until the cornstarch dissolves as much as possible. Set it aside while you cook the shrimp and vegetables.
3-Third Step: Heat the pan and start the garlic Place a wok or large pan over high heat. Add half of the 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Once the oil shimmers, add the 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped, and sautΓ© for about 1 minute. You want the garlic fragrant, not burned. Burnt garlic can make the whole dish taste bitter, and nobody has time for that.
4-Fourth Step: Stir-fry the shrimp Add the 500 grams of deveined and cleaned shrimp to the pan. Stir-fry on high heat for 2 to 3 minutes, just until the shrimp turn pink. Shrimp cooks very quickly, so keep it moving in the pan. Overcooked shrimp gets rubbery, which is not the vibe we want for a shrimp broccoli teriyaki bowl.
5-Fifth Step: Add the broccoli and mixed vegetables Now add the 1 whole head of broccoli cut into florets and 1 cup of mixed vegetables such as mushrooms and bell peppers. Stir-fry everything for another 2 to 3 minutes. The vegetables should look bright and still have some crunch. If you are using firmer vegetables like zucchini or onions, you can slice them thin so they cook at the same speed.
6-Sixth Step: Pour in the sauce and let it thicken Give the sauce a quick stir, then pour it into the pan. Stir everything well until the sauce starts to boil. As it cooks, the cornstarch will thicken the sauce and turn it glossy. If it looks too thick, add a little water, a tablespoon at a time, until it loosens up.
7-Final Step: Simmer, taste, and serve Let the shrimp teriyaki stir fry simmer for 1 to 2 minutes so the flavors come together. Taste the dish and add salt if needed. Then remove it from the heat and serve right away over rice, noodles, or even on its own if you are feeling low-carb and fancy. This quick stir fry is best hot, right out of the pan, when the sauce is shiny and the veggies still have bite.
