β˜• Indulge in the rich and creamy blend of chocolate and espresso for a cozy treat on chilly days.
🍫 This espresso hot chocolate delivers bold coffee flavor balanced perfectly with smooth, melted semi-sweet chocolate.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: About 7 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups whole milk

2 cups heavy cream

1 tablespoon instant espresso powder

2 pinches ground cinnamon

1 pinch kosher salt

6 tablespoons granulated sugar

12 ounces chopped semi-sweet chocolate

1 cup hot water

1.5 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

1-First Step: Gather all ingredients and prepare your espresso shot by dissolving the instant espresso powder, ground cinnamon, and kosher salt in 1 cup of hot water, stirring until fully dissolved. This creates the espresso mixture that adds that bold coffee kick.

2-Second Step: In a saucepan, heat the 4 cups of whole milk and 2 cups of heavy cream over medium heat until hot but not boiling, which helps prevent any curdling and keeps the drink silky.

3-Third Step: While the milk mixture warms, whisk the 6 tablespoons of granulated sugar and the 12 ounces of chopped semi-sweet chocolate into it. To avoid graininess, melt the chocolate first with a small portion of the milk over low heat until smooth, then gradually add the rest.

4-Fourth Step: Stir in the prepared espresso mixture and 1.5 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, blending everything together. If needed, reheat gently to ensure it’s all combined without boiling.

5-Fifth Step: Pour into mugs and serve immediately with optional toppings such as mini marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel, sprinkles, or chocolate shavings. Using high-quality chocolate makes a big difference in achieving that rich, creamy chocolate flavor you’ve been craving.
