– 15 oz ricotta cheese

– 1 large egg

– 2 cups mozzarella cheese

– ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

– ½ teaspoon dried parsley

– ¼ teaspoon pepper

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 1 small yellow onion, diced

– ½ lb ground beef

– ½ lb ground Italian sausage (hot or mild)

– 3 garlic cloves

– ½ cup chicken broth

– 32 oz marinara sauce

– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

– 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

– 12 lasagna noodles plus extra for breakage

– 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese

Instructions

1-Getting started: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F to get everything set for baking. This guide walks you through each part, making it feel like you’re cooking with a friend by your side (and don’t worry, it’s forgiving for beginners).

2-First, mix the cheese filling ingredients in a bowl and set them aside for later. Spread ½ cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish to create a nice base. While the oven heats up, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles to al dente, then drain and rinse them with cold water.

3-Next, heat the olive oil over medium heat in a pan, add the diced onion, and cook for about 10 minutes until it’s soft. Add the ground beef and sausage, crank the heat to medium-high, and break up the meat as it cooks for 8-10 minutes until it’s fully done. Toss in the garlic for the last minute, drain any excess grease, then stir in the chicken broth to scrape up those flavorful bits from the pan.

4-Now, add the remaining marinara sauce along with the Worcestershire and hot sauces if you’re using them, bring everything to a boil, and let it simmer gently. Lay the cooked noodles on parchment or wax paper, spread about 2 ½ tablespoons of the cheese filling on each one, and top that with ¼ cup of the meat sauce (you’ll use about 3 cups total, saving some for later). Roll the noodles tightly and place them seam side down in the baking dish.

5-Finish by covering the rolls with the rest of the meat sauce and sprinkling 1.5 cups of mozzarella cheese on top. Cover the dish with foil that’s been sprayed with nonstick spray and bake for 35 minutes. If you want a golden top, remove the foil and broil at 450°F, keeping a close eye on it. Once it’s done, garnish with fresh parsley and let it cool a bit before serving total prep is about 30 minutes, with 35 minutes of cooking for a full 1 hour 5 minutes.
