🧅 Unlock the rich, sweet flavor of onions through simple, slow caramelization techniques.
🔥 Achieve perfect texture and deep golden color with patience and proper heat control for versatile cooking use.

  • Total Time: 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: About 4 medium onions worth of caramelized onions

Ingredients

– 2 tablespoons olive oil for sautéing and helping the onions develop their rich flavors

– 4 medium yellow onions, halved and sliced the base that provides sweetness and texture

– ½ teaspoon salt to draw out moisture and enhance the natural sweetness during cooking

Instructions

1-First: heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat to get things started.

2-Add 4 medium yellow onions that you’ve halved and sliced, along with ½ teaspoon of salt, and sauté for 5 minutes while stirring frequently until they start to soften.

3-Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 50 to 80 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until the onions become very soft, golden brown, and fully caramelized the total preparation and cooking time is about 1 hour and 5 minutes to 1 hour and 25 minutes.

4-If the onions begin to stick or burn, adjust the heat to low and add a splash of water to prevent sticking without losing flavor.

5-For enhanced caramelization, increase the heat to medium at the end and stir continuously, scraping up any browned bits from the pan for that deep, rich taste.
