Ingredients
1 lb. (about 450 g) ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
½ cup diced yellow onion
3 tablespoons butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ lb. (about 2 cups) macaroni pasta
1 ½ cups beef broth
8 oz. (about 240 ml) tomato sauce
½ cup half and half
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon ketchup
½ beef bouillon cube (optional)
¾ teaspoon dried oregano
¾ teaspoon dried basil
¾ teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
1-Getting Beefaroni just right: First, combine all sauce ingredients in a large measuring cup and set them aside for easy access.
2-Next: season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then cook it in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes while breaking it up as it cooks. Add the diced onions and sauté for 5-6 minutes until they’re tender, then drain the excess grease and set the beef mixture aside. At the same time, boil water with ½ tablespoon salt for the macaroni to cook it to al dente perfection.
3-Now: in the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add garlic, flour, and tomato paste, cooking for 1-2 minutes to build a flavorful base. Gradually add the sauce mixture in small splashes while stirring to keep it thick and smooth. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered while the macaroni finishes cooking, then drain the pasta.
4-Gradually stir the shredded cheese into the sauce until it’s fully melted, reserving some if you want to add it on top later. Finally, mix the cooked beef and onions back into the sauce, then stir in the cooked macaroni for a hearty blend. If desired, sprinkle the reserved cheese on top, cover it, and let it melt before serving immediately.
