– 4 medium-sized apples (such as Honeycrisp)
– ΒΌ cup all-purpose flour
– β cup light brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– ΒΌ teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
– Β½ cup old fashioned oats
– 4 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cubed
– Vanilla ice cream for serving
– Caramel sauce for serving
Instructions
1- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
2- Core each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a cavity (use a melon baller or spoon). Alternatively, halve apples lengthwise and scoop out the core.
3- In a bowl, combine the flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt, optional nuts, and oats.
4- Rub the chilled, cubed butter into the dry ingredients with your fingers until a crumble filling forms.
5- Fill the cored apples or apple halves generously with the crumble mixture.
6- Place the stuffed apples in a baking dish. Add about 1 inch of water to the bottom of the dish.
7- Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 25 minutes.
8- Remove the foil. Continue baking for an additional 30 to 40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender but still hold their shape.
9- Serve the warm baked apples with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce drizzled over the top.
